The cottage sits alone on twenty-four acres, with no shared walls, no shared driveway, and no one walking past the windows. Hotel-grade mattresses and linens in all three bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a spa deck with a hot tub and a cold plunge facing the water.
The farm is the reason to come. Dwarf Nigerian goats, Silkie chickens, mini pigs, and retired cows from the Krishna Cow Sanctuary in Papaikou, all hand-fed and entirely uninterested in personal space. Guests are welcome in the paddocks.
Honomu town is a walk down the hill: one street, a shave ice shop that makes its own syrups, and the plantation buildings that have been there since the mill closed. Akaka Falls State Park is five minutes. Hilo is twenty.
Worth knowing before you book
- Working farm. Animals are fed on a schedule and roosters keep their own.
- Sleeps eight using one twin and one queen air bed in addition to the three bedrooms.
- Electric fencing on the paddock lines. Safe, but real. Guests are briefed at check-in.
